It uses an ActiveX control that basically lets Remote Desktop run through Internet Explorer. Remote Web Workplace doesn't use "Remote Desktop Connection" (that you get to from Programs > Accessories). I had some time this afternoon, so I double-checked everything. Closed IE (rebooted actually), and no change.ĭoes anyone have any ideas how I can get this ActiveX control installed? RE: Can't get Remote Desktop ActiveX Control installed guitarzan (Programmer)

I also went to Internet Security Settings, reset the settings to "Medium", and verified that both "Download signed ActiveX Controls" and "Download unsigned ActiveX Controls" are both set to "Prompt". I tried adding the domain to Trusted Sites > Sites (I added ), but this had no effect. and it's not present when I look in Add-On Manager. I know that XP SP3 disables the Remote Desktop add-on, but it only disables it if it's present.

Your browser's security settings may be preventing you from downloading ActiveX controls. When I get to the point where it should ask to install the ActiveX control, I get a somewhat generic message saying "This portion of the Remote Web Workplace requires the Microsoft Remote Desktop ActiveX Control. I'm trying to connect from a new notebook (XP SP3) to an SBS 2003 server via Remote Web Workplace, which on a new machine, involves being prompted to install the Remote Desktop ActiveX Control. I first posted this in forum1584: Microsoft: Windows Small Business Server 2003, but this is more of an XP/IE7 issue.
